Easy way to record and save continuous video?

#1

Is there an easier way to record and store continuous video?

Currently I have to view playback, scroll through all of the video to find what I am looking for, play that video and record it in “real time”. If I want to save 20 min of my kids playing, I have to sit and record the saved video for 20 min which is cumbersome. It would be nice if I could View Playback and save from a start and end point, 8:00 AM - 8:20 AM, for example.

Regarding the ability to view, record, and save video from a desktop or laptop; just for simple viewing and functionality, it would be nice to view things on a 17 - 24 inch screen as opposed to my 5 inch cell phone screen.

I love these little cameras and have purchases two Pans and two Cam V2’s so it would be wonderful if a few costumer suggestions were taken to heart. I saw a poll in the forums about desktop access and it was at 99% in favor of this feature.

If you pull the uSD card out and plug it into a computer, there are several applications that can both view a series of recordings (each minute is a separate file), and also stitch them together into a single file. At this time, there is no way to do that (other than what you described) to do so without pulling the uSD card. One of the things that has been requested is the ability to directly access the uSD card remotely and download files. I have no idea if that will be implemented, but would be nice for camera locations that are hard to get to or remote locations.

Mosby, There have been requests for both the ability to directly download mSD card video and to pre-set start/stop time for playback/record. I’ve added your votes for these to Wyze’s feature request tracker.

Thx K6CCC. Two of my cameras are placed on top of a kitchen cabinet and an entertainment center so removing the cards to download video is less that ideal.

Several of mine are also mounted under eves of the house so getting to them requires a large ladder. Several more are at a mountain top radio site that takes several miles of dirt fire road to get to. I would love to be able to ftp (or some other file transfer) to get to them.

An FTP (or SSH) server would be fine for me to download video from the microSD card. I suppose you’d want to make it consumer friendly though and put downloads in the app.

Regarding “pre-set start/stop time for playback/record,” I see the new app for android now has Tasks in it. Maybe adding a couple of device actions to start and stop recording would be the solution.

In the version of the app I have, the device actions for the PTZ cam are currently: turn on the camera, turn off the camera, upload a short video to the cloud, turn on motion detection, turn off motion detection, restart the camera, reset position.

I also wish for way to copy files from the SD without removing it.

Currently the time lapse files can be downloaded, but it requires the phone app being on the same network. My assumption is that this is so Wyze does not have to pay for transit of large data transferred. Have you figured a way to remotely download time lapse files from the mountain top radio site? Perhaps layer 2 bridge with your Mikrotik?

I have never made any attempt to record a Time Lapse up on the hill. Both cameras record all the time. To date, I have never had a need to retain recorded video. Mostly used to verify who is there when the door alarm goes off. If the need arises, it would be nice to download files directly from the cameraa…

I take it you are the same BuckEye that I know from the Mikrotik forum?

Yes, that’s me. Small world, isn’t it?

I was also thinking of putting them on the of the Kitchen cabinets but might have to rethink this.

Thanks

John,

Let me know how it works out in your kitchen because I was looking to do the same. I also send flowers to Guatemala from my office so I was wondering putting it on the to shelf of the office but if its a pain to download the video from the card, hmmmmm.

Thanks
