Why was Android hardware decoding removed?

I was about to share the link to the APK here but Jason beat me to it! Thank you for the feedback, everyone. We’re evaluating different solutions for this and have made the previous APK available in the meantime.

Not everyone has a new $1000.00 phone. If venture a guess that people who buy wyze Cam are cost conscious and don’t upgrade every 6 months, so having hardware decoding makes sense for us value seekers, who likely are the majority of your customers, otherwise we’d be in the Arlo forums with money to burn.

Thanks…I get that part of it but how do the cameras get updated? The phone app updates all the cameras automatically?

The camera firmware is separate from the app updates. Yes, the phone will update the app automatically so to prevent it from updating the app again to the new version, you will have to turn off auto updates. It’s about the only solution at the moment. Please read my other post on this topic below:

Just to add to what @StopICU33 said, the firmware for the camera is not the worry, you can let those update, keep the app from updating until the issue is resolved

The cameras do not need updated. The app needs to be rolled back to a previous version.

Sorry…thought I saw someone say the camera had to be updated. Clearly it is just the app.

Hi all. Same issue here. LG stylo 4 , experiencing a 10 to 15 sec lag time. Then I realized the hardware decoder option was gone and found this thread. Thanks for the info

I just uninstalled the current version and installed the older version provided in the posts above and it works like a charm. Almost zero lag now, Maybe a second or less. Wyze, please fix this issue.

Yep, hardware decoder removal has been an issue for many. Glad to hear you got it all working now.

Yes please fix ASAP so I don’t have to do the uninstall/install.

Same thing! Fix the App. I have 5 cameras and 3 sensors. I am very frustrated. Won’t buy WYZE anymore.

Whatever you did, please change it back. Or tell me what I can do to get my live feed to not look like everyone is moving underwater. It is ‘slow’. And the response for moving the view of my Cam Pan even slower. I don’t think I’d be running 7 cameras if this is what the feed looked like when I set up my security system exclusively with WYZE .
