Assume this is a V3 and using a 32Gb uSD card. It should not erase after power cut or re-insert.
Yes, good idea to test card in workstation and verify format is FAT32.
It is not necessary to have a uSD card in the V3 to get notifications. A card with bad cells can cause notifications to stop or camera to seize as it attempts to write to bad cell.
