Outdoor/Weatherproof Wyze Cam

I agree, my V2’s have a gray base,

The face of the camera is totally different too. The black circle takes up the whole front instead of just around the lens.

Your right, and no little circle under the big circle!

Any update on the Outdoor/Weatherproof Wyze Cam? I’m planning on installing security cameras around my house but I’m willing to wait a few more months if you are releasing a real outdoor cam soon. I have a V2 and when I bring it outside 15 ft from router, the stream quality degrades that it has about 5 to 8 second delay. It works fine inside the house even when I go to another floor but the stucco wall seem to block give Wyze V2 an issue. I can stream video fine outdoor so I cannot say it is a router issue.

How is the design going? Any specs that you can share? i.e. POE capability, Stronger WiFi antenna, etc. and also possible release date?

Thanks!

I have tried reolink, yi, wyze to detect human motion. They all are not working because they are pixel detection based. I ended up pairing wifi camera with other PIR motion sensors. Ring has a product that can do facial recognition. But they are very pricy and require monthly subscription. In that case, customer just switch to security monitor service. I wish wyze can design outdoor cam that detect/alert human motion reliably. If the PIR is the only sure thing to detect human motion, why can’t we combine PIR and pixel detection to detect human? If putting them together prove to be too challenge, pairing PIR motion sensor to wifi camera is a good alternative.

Thought you might be interested in my Wyze outdoor installation and pass it on

Where did you get the outlet? Part number?

Leviton 1306-W 15A, 125V, Snap
I bought on Amazon cause i was im a hurry but they’re a lot cheaper elsewhere. If you enlarge my pic, I think you can read the part #

2 of Leviton 1306-W 15A, 125V, Snap-In Receptacle, Leads 14GA 6-Inch Long Wired, White

I bought them on Amazon cause I was in a hurry. They are a lot cheaper elsewhere. Any other questions, please ask

What this Wyze Cam aims for?
If it is designed for home security.
I have put a trail camera in front of my house, and it takes many a pictures and videos for me, well, I think it meets all my needs as to protecting our safety.

That is about what it is designed for.
Major differences:
Wireless, no requirement for swapping SD cards (unless they mess up the build and you have to reload)
Powered by USB thus you can just get them near a power outlet, no need to run cable. Or you can put them on a battery, And they are designed to daisy chain up to 3 together.
The motion detector is based on pixel change, not IR. Thus among other things it works through windows and does not rely on “body heat”.
NOT weatherproof
Only $20 +tx&sh

Since we’re in the outdoor cam thread, I’ll mention that the outdoor cam that Wyze is developing will use a rechargeable battery and a PIR motion sensor.

Using your own battery is a cool idea. I had one of my cams plugged in to a Milwaukee M18 battery for a minute. It was a fun test… But, next time I’ll have to run a test, to see how long a charge will last, powering a camera. :):grinning:

Seems like a waste, producing an outdoor camera, from scratch… Wouldn’t it be more cost efficient to design an outdoor enclosure, compatible with both cams? That way the price point if each camera never changes, and it’s marketed as an add-on…
There’s a perfectly functional USB port for powering more IR lights…

For some use cases, perhaps. But that would not provide two key features: (1) battery powered, and (2) PIR motion sensor triggered.

You might say: well, why not have the enclosure contain a battery and PIR motion sensor? The problem there would be that wifi comm uses too much power to run on battery for very long. That’s why the new outdoor product will communicate over a dedicated low-power channel to an internet connected base station.

That’s a good point… I wasn’t taking battery powered into consideration. I just meant, running the power cord to an outlet… And maybe having a PIR motion sensor on the enclosure itself, communicating with the wyze cams.

That might be good product idea: an outdoor enclosure that fits a V2 and//or Pan and has a built in Wyze Sense motion sensor for those use cases where running USB power isn’t a problem. Maybe even a slight mod to the motion sensor so that it can run off the cam power and not need a battery. I like it.

Yeah… I don’t know much about battery powered cameras… But, I know marketing!
Having an inexpensive camera with a bunch of inexpensive add-ons is a great way to keep people throwing money at the company.

I have been waiting for the outdoor camera but it seems to be turning into something I don’t want. I have no need for a battery powered camera or network hub addons. Just sounds like extra money for stuff I don’t want.
