so i guess i’m a little confused here. what is the micro usb cable that comes with the camera for? power? data? tried to find a setup guide and could not. help would be much appreciated. thanks!
The cable is for power only. The micro USB port on the camera does not support a data connection – only power.
but the ac plug with a usb connector is not provided with the cam, correct?

Yes, the AC to USB/DC power adapter is provided with the camera as well as a 6ft USB cable. Did you purchase one that was missing the power adapter? The cable and adapter look like this
