JPEG endpoint of stream (without RTSP firmware)

Other similar wishlist items or tricks I’ve seen all require or rely on the RTSP firmware to work, via 3rd party tools… This is different:

A’ll I’d like to see implemented is an endpoint (url) on the camera that serves a single image of the current feed. Something like http://10.0.0.5/live_image.jpg

Each time the endpoint is called, a new image is captured by the camera and displayd. This is what I need simply to view my cameras through my home automation system, at some very low refresh rate (e.g. 1 image / 5 sec). Needing to work via RTSP and other 3rd party tools is simply unnecesary. This should be trivial to implement.

No provision to do that. Even with RTSP firmware, there is no way to do that.

Would be nice.
