Yes, a small stuck piece of wood/something will do this, but looks like a clunky block out of place IMO…
Door trim/door heights/levels vary a lot, so it would seem that there needs to be some sort of screw-adjustable height plate for the smaller part to mount to that sticks to the door. Basically, a small scissorlift surface with a screwdriver-adjustable mechanism to raise so that the smaller sensor piece is in-line with the other piece. Maybe overengineering, but would look pretty good.
