CNET leaves WYZE off list of self-install security systems!

If you’re a member of CNET, go to

and let them know in the comments how big an error they made leaving WYZE off the list. And/or give my call-out an up-click.

Hard to believe they would leave WYZE off the list when they have expensive, complicated, pay-per-month options on there (or maybe it’s not that hard if all the rumors about companies paying them for reviews are to be believed).

I don’t believe WYZE considers their products to be a “security system.” They don’t provide monitoring services that are the baseline of any true security system. I love the product for what it is.

Door and window sensors, motion detection, video cameras that can be triggered by motion, two-way audio, notifications to my phone any time any of those sensors gets triggered…
Sure seems like a security system to me, but I guess you can make up any definition you want to suit the way you want the world to be.

Actually, the Wyze TOS says “The products and services are not intended for use as security or life safety devices or services (such as a burglar alarm or monitoring system). Please do not rely on the products and services for any such critical uses. Please read the disclosures about this in sections 3.B and 3.C below as you are acknowledging and accepting them.”

Sounds like what a lawyer told them they had to say to keep from getting sued.

Tell me, what part of, “Notifies me when someone opens the door, and takes a video of them…notifies me if it hears the smoke alarm goes off…notifies me if motion is detected in the house when I’m away” IS NOT a security system? Don’t quote some legaleze jargon from a disclaimer…tell me what about the WYZE cam + Sense system makes it something other than a security system.

Sheesh, it’s like you people are looking for ways to run down the system. What’s the deal? You only think it’s a security system if some stranger is watching what happens in your house instead of you?

I believe there is a UL certification required to be a security system. Usually requires battery backup, cellular backup, etc.
