Chime required for Doorbell Pro?

I recently installed the doorbell pro on my rv, I don’t really need the chime, I’m only interested in having the camera. I unplugged the chime the other day then realized later it wasn’t recording events and was showing offline. I plugged in the chime and sure enough it came back online, unplugged again, offline, so it would appear the chime is required for the doorbell pro to work? Does the chime act as a bridge?

Yes it does. The doorbell talks to the chime which talks to your network. It is a form of security and allows for 5G WiFi as well.

hmm, bummer…I searched all faq & support docs, didn’t see anything about it being required. I suppose they assume most everyone would use the chime.
