Activity LED should not be an option, for privacy sake

Actually I do find it to be quite bright. And for you to say that for your concerns you can’t do anything is quite preposterous. You could tell your girlfriend to cover the camera, You can take the product as is and not ask thousands of people to deal with an inconvenience so you don’t have to deal with one personally. You could not have a camera at all, iIf your neighbor scares you that bad you can always move, Perhaps a restraining order. Or if you don’t like any of those options you can always buy a ring or arlo and pay way more money and probably have even less privacy.

It is bright enough that the one in my sons room lights half the wall up when all the lights are off. You can unplug or cover the cam when your girlfriend is there, so there is something you can do, it is just not what you want to do. I would go the route of plugging it into an outlet you can cut power to

4 different brands of cameras and they all have the option to shut off the LED, so that tells you something right there

Was you replying to me? Even with it unplugged??
Nevermind I see who you was replying too. I’ve not seen this type of format anywhere but understand it now.

The fact the option is hidden in “Advanced Settings” makes me believe “100’s of thousands of people” may be far fetched…

Well that must mean that you perceive that all the other settings in “Advanced Settings” are hidden also

Wyze has over 2 million users. Assuming only 1/10 users have the status LED off is still 200k users. 100’s of thousands seems like a plausible number to me.

Removing a desirable feature for many users to suit the needs of the few does not make much sense.

There are steps you can still take:

  1. You could change the whole outlet to a smart outlet
  2. Use a smart power strip
  3. Have the camera plugged into a regular power strip but also have a lamp/light of some sort plugged in to the strip to act as an indicator and plug the whole thing into a smart outlet
  4. Use some combination of the above (smart plug that is plugged into a smart strip that is plugged into a smart wall outlet) with varying brands so a hacker would have to crack multiple layers of credentials just to turn on the camera.

I’m a bit lost here.
You want the camera on but not transmitting?

What has the LED got to do with this?

That LED doesn’t assure you of that at all.

Even if the LED did indicate what you think it does, only you have the ability to turn it off. If you don’t want it off, leave it on.

Technically, yes you can downgrade using an SD card.

Is this thread over yet? 'Cause it’s going nowhere pretty fast. :frowning:

From my understanding he wants the option that allows users to turn on/off the rear LED removed so that when the camera is “on” there is a visible indicator that it is “on” .

If the option is available someone up to no good could compromise the account, log in, toggle the Led off, switch the camera on and view/record without people in the vicinity knowing.

100% correct. Since it is mounted on the ceiling I cannot really put a cloth on it or install a smart switch.
I understand many of you want to disable it because it is too bright. I now understand better why many of you want it off.
I wonder if there would be a way to have the best of both world.,
Thanks for participating, y’all

Yes, don’t turn it off.

For this to be of any concern at all someone has to learn your password and hack Wyze 2 factor authentication.
