Hi, I am not sure if this was asked before, but could not find another thread about it.
I am in an apartment with an old AC unit. the unit itself does not have an accessible control board to add the c-wire adapter to. I’ve seen elsewhere that it is possible to use a 24v AC adapter to provide independent power to the thermostat instead. Can anyone confirm this, or give me an example of how to wire the thermostat to allow this alternative?
I haven’t tried it myself but using a separate power source for R and C to power the thermostat, then wiring the remaining wires (W, Y etc) should work.

It looks like you can get a “wall wart” style adapter on Amazon for around $20 or so to run power to it seperatly. I just searched for s wire on Amazon and there were lots of options.
